How to convert a PDF to JPG on Android

Turn the pages of a PDF into JPG or PNG images, right on your phone. Pick the format, pick the pages, and get one image per page. This guide shows the exact controls in ViaPDF.

Save a PDF page as an image without uploading it

Most people searching PDF to JPG on Android are holding one file and need a picture of it. A page for a chat, a form that only accepts images, a slide for a presentation. ViaPDF’s PDF to images tool does that job. It turns each page you choose into its own image, and it does the work on your phone, so you can convert a PDF to JPG without uploading it to anyone’s server.

You get one image per page. A twelve-page PDF with every page selected gives you twelve images. If all you want is to save a PDF page as an image, deselect the other pages before you convert and you get a single picture.

JPG or PNG: which format to pick

  • JPG makes smaller files. Choose it for photos, phone scans, and anything you will send over a chat app or attach to a form with a size limit.
  • PNG gives sharper text. Choose it for small print, thin lines, or a page of figures that has to stay easy to read. If you searched for PDF to PNG on Android, this is the setting: switch the format to PNG before you convert.

If you are unsure, start with JPG. If the words on the page look softer than you want, convert again as PNG. Expect the PNG images to take more room than the same pages as JPG.

Where the images go: Save or Share

When the conversion finishes, you get two buttons. On Android 10 and later, Save puts the images in the Pictures/ViaPDF folder on your phone. Share sends them to another app, such as a messaging app or your email. On Android 7 to 9, only Share is offered, so choose the app you want to send them to.

Pages become pictures. The images are new files and the PDF you opened is not changed. Text inside an image cannot be selected or copied. If you need the words, run OCR on the scanned PDF instead.

Before you start

  • ViaPDF needs Android 7.0 or later. Save to Pictures/ViaPDF needs Android 10 or later; on Android 7 to 9 you can Share.
  • Files over 250 MB or over 200 pages are rejected.
  • All pages are selected at first. Tap a page to change the selection.
  • The first Save or Share is free. After that, one unlock for $14.99.

Get only the pages you need

Converting a whole document makes a lot of files, and most of them may be pages you will never send. Narrow the selection first. A cover page and a signature page, for example, give you two images and nothing to clean up afterward. If you want a smaller PDF instead of pictures, use Compress, which shows the new size before you export.

Because Save uses its own Pictures/ViaPDF folder, you can find the whole batch in one place.
