What “private” should actually mean
Many apps call themselves private because your feed is only visible to invited family. That is access control, not privacy. The photos still live on the company’s servers, are processed by their systems and are covered by a policy they can change.
A genuinely private baby journal app is different in kind:
- No account. There is nothing to log into because there is no server-side you.
- No sync by default. Photos, videos and voice notes are written to the phone’s storage and nowhere else.
- No analytics on your child. No tracking of what you record, when, or who is in the picture.
- Sharing is explicit and stripped. When you do send a moment to grandma, hidden location and camera metadata should be removed first.
- You can lock the app itself. A phone handed over to show one photo should not expose the whole journal.
How Everkeep keeps your journal on your phone
Everkeep is local-first by design. There is no sign-up screen because there is nothing to sign up to. Every memory is stored in the app’s private storage on your device. The App Store privacy label lists a single item, “Purchases”, as data not linked to you: that is the store confirming your Pro unlock, and nothing else.
- Offline by nature. Capture, browse, search and export all work with no connection.
- App lock. Protect the entire journal with Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint or a PIN, with an idle timeout you choose.
- Clean sharing. Sharing a memory sends the caption and media through your phone’s normal share sheet, with EXIF data (location, device) removed by default. There are no public links.
- Private PDF. The Pro memory book leaves exact dates and place names off unless you switch them on, and strips metadata from every image.
- Backups you hold. A ZIP you save to Files, a drive or a computer. No copy is kept by us because we have nowhere to keep it.
Honest note: Everkeep uses RevenueCat to verify the one-time Pro purchase with Apple or Google. No memory content, names or photos are involved in that check.
How to set up a private baby journal in Everkeep
Five minutes of setup gives you a journal that only you can open and that never uploads anything.

Private baby journal FAQ
If there is no cloud, what if I lose my phone?
That is what backups are for. Create a ZIP backup in Settings and store it somewhere safe, such as your computer or your own encrypted cloud drive. Restoring on a new phone takes a couple of minutes. You are in charge of the copy, rather than trusting a company’s server.
Does Everkeep have ads or trackers?
No ads, no advertising SDKs and no analytics about your journal. The only third-party component is RevenueCat, used solely to validate the one-time Pro purchase.
Can grandparents follow along?
Not through a feed, by design. Instead, share individual memories to them through your usual messaging apps, or send them the PDF memory book. They see exactly what you chose to send, and nothing is stored on a platform.
